Le Mans 24 Hours 2024: Porsche takes pole

Full starting grid for the 92nd edition of the race

Porsche will start on pole for the 2024 Le Mans 24 Hours after a last gasp lap knocked Cadillac off the top.

The German manufacturer's No. 6 car, driven by Kevin Estre, Laurens Vanthoor and Michael Christensen, set a time of 3:26.884 on the final lap of qualifying to demote the No. 5 Cadillac of Earl Bamber, Alex Lynn and Richard Westbrook to second place.

It is the first time that Porsche has taken pole at Le Mans since 2017, and it comes at a time when the marque is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its first overall victory at the race.

The No. 7 Porsche of Andre Lotterer, Neel Jani and Frederic Makowiecki will start third, ahead of the No. 8 Toyota of Sebastien Buemi, Ryo Hirakawa and Brendon Hartley.

The top six cars in qualifying were all within a second of each other, setting up the prospect of a close race on June 15-16.

The 2024 Le Mans 24 Hours will be the 92nd edition of the race, and it will mark the 100th anniversary of the first running of the event in 1923.

The race will be held on the Circuit de la Sarthe in Le Mans, France, and it will be the third round of the 2024 FIA World Endurance Championship.
